Increasing the Effectiveness of Female Legislators in Cameroon through Democratic Governance Trainings 2012-2014

In Cameroon, the challenges for women elected to legislative bodies are often greater than those facing their male peers. While this is an unfair characterization, it can create obstacles for these women, especially those holding office for the first time when they need to seek advice on their roles and responsibilities as legislators. Funded by Women’s Democracy Network (WDN) USA, and implemented in Cameroon by IVFCam, this project engages female legislators in an all round intensive capacity building program that seeks to enhance their ability to conduct democratic governance once elected and increase public confidence in the ability of women to serve as responsive leaders. It is expected that with this intervention, female political participation will increase from the grassroots to the national level, while changing the negative public perception of women as leaders in Cameroon.
